A commitment to proactive environmental management - aimed at minimising the effect of its operations on the environment - is one of Golden Bay Cement's core values.
Cement manufacture directly affects the environment in many ways, including extraction of raw materials, the nature of the plant's operations, use of water and other natural resources.
Golden Bay Cement's Resource Team is responsible for ensuring that the company's Environmental Plan follows the spirit and intent of the New Zealand's resource management legislation at all company sites. This is done by auditing the company's installations, implementing changes where required and monitoring the effects of those changes.
Examples of the Resource Team's work in recent years have included extensive tree planting, establishment of wetlands behind the plant, and installation of a water reclaim system which cuts down on fresh water used.
